The science behind WellU

Q. What is Biopeptide Complex?

Biopeptide Complex is a WellU-patented complex of several hundred natural, bioactive marine collagen oligo- and polypeptides, sourced from selected freshwater fish species. They come mainly from three protein groups: lumican, decorin and histones, mostly as small peptides 7–29 amino acids long.

It is the shared scientific foundation of both Larens cosmeceutics and Nutrivi supplements — the only difference is the delivery route into the body: topically (skin) or internally (supplementation).

Q. How do marine collagen peptides work on the skin?

Peptides in Biopeptide Complex work in three ways:

Signalling — they trigger fibroblasts, stimulating natural collagen and elastin production.
Relaxing — known as an "iron for wrinkles", they relax the muscles responsible for expression lines.
Transporting — they carry other active ingredients deep into the skin's layers, so regeneration starts from within.

Q. How does Larens differ from Nutrivi?

Larens is a cosmeceutics brand for face, body and hair care — serums, creams and gels applied topically. Nutrivi is a dietary supplement brand taken orally, supporting the body from within.

Both brands belong to WellU Group and are built on the same Biopeptide Complex and hexagonally-structured Nutrivi water — the only difference is the delivery route for active ingredients.

Q. What is Nutrivi water and its hexagonal structure?

Nutrivi water is a proprietary WellU water with a unique, hexagonal molecular structure, used as a carrier for active ingredients. Thanks to its structure it facilitates the transport of peptides and other nutrients deep into cells — in both Larens cosmeceutics and Nutrivi supplements.

Q. Does WellU hold a patent for Biopeptide Complex?

Yes — WellU holds a patent for the method of obtaining biologically active collagen and peptides from the skins of freshwater salmonid fish. The Polish patent (no. PL206813) is held by Prof. Andrzej Frydrychowski, MD, PhD, head of the WellU Scientific Board. The patent has a US equivalent (US7285638). WellU is the only company in the world with this patent protection.

Q. How does marine collagen differ from bovine collagen, and which should I choose?

At the same molecular weight, studies show no significant difference in bioavailability between marine and bovine collagen. The real advantage of marine collagen lies elsewhere — in the specific signalling peptide fractions from lumican and decorin, which WellU preserves through its patented cold-extraction method. These are the fractions responsible for the 671% increase in collagen synthesis observed in SIRCOL studies.

Q. What is lyophilization and why does WellU use it?

Lyophilization is freeze-drying at low temperatures under vacuum — water passes directly from a solid to a gas state, bypassing the liquid phase. This preserves the biological structure of signalling peptides unchanged. WellU uses lyophilization to stabilize collagen and peptides, unlike the popular enzymatic hydrolysis method, which can destroy valuable signalling fractions.

Q. Can Larens and Nutrivi products be combined?

Yes — both brands were designed as complementary parts of one routine: Larens works topically through skincare, while Nutrivi supports the body from within through supplementation. The common denominator is Biopeptide Complex.

Q. What is SYN-AKE in Larens serum?

SYN-AKE is a neuropeptide that mimics the action of Temple Viper venom toxin, relaxing and inhibiting the muscle contractions responsible for expression lines. It is used, among others, in the Syn Ake Eye & More serum, part of the Beauty Intensive Duo set.

Q. How do I combine Larens products in a daily routine?

A typical Larens routine combines a serum (e.g. Biopeptide Serum Spray) applied to cleansed skin as a base, followed by a cream (e.g. Lifting Face Cream) to finish. Once a week it's worth adding a sheet mask, such as BioRenew Tissue Face Mask, and around the eyes and expression lines — targeted products like Syn Ake Eye & More.

The manufacturer recommends introducing new products gradually, about two weeks apart, to avoid irritation — you'll find a detailed schedule in the guide below.

Q. How does Biopeptide Serum Spray differ from BioRenew Tissue Face Mask?

Biopeptide Serum Spray is a multi-purpose spray product for face, body, hair and nails — versatile, for use even several times a day as the base of a daily routine. BioRenew Tissue Face Mask is a sheet mask for a one-off, intensive treatment — used once a week for 20 minutes, combining BIO-Placenta with Biopeptide Complex, giving a lifting effect that lasts up to 7 days.

Q. Can using Larens cosmeceutics cause irritation?

Due to the high concentration of active ingredients (sets contain products that are 95% natural, saturated with marine collagen peptides), the manufacturer recommends gradually introducing Larens products into your routine. A slight tingling after using the toner in the first weeks is normal, but if irritation persists, it's worth reducing frequency of use or consulting a specialist.

Q. Does Larens have an SPF sun cream?

Yes — Larens offers two UV protection creams: Suncare Face Cream SPF20 for daily use (a formula with Biopeptide Complex, ferulic acid and aloe, paraben-free) and SunVera Face Cream SPF50 for intensive protection during prolonged sun exposure, sports, or when using exfoliating acids. Both work well as a makeup base.

Q. Is Larens Hair Repair shampoo suitable for coloured hair?

Yes — Larens Hair Repair Shampoo is especially recommended for chemically damaged hair (colouring, perming). The keratin in its formula protects hair structure from further damage by oxidizing agents and fills gaps in the hair shaft. The shampoo is sulphate-free (no SLS/SLES), which reduces colour fade and is gentler on the scalp after chemical treatments.

Q. What is Larens Colour, and how does it differ from ordinary makeup?

Larens Colour is a WellU colour cosmetics line with the tagline "More than make-up". 85% of each product's ingredients come from nature. Instead of polycyclic silicones and parabens — liposomal collagen, three types of hyaluronic acid, and Phytodermina H Lifting. Products contain no microplastics, PVP, nylon, phenoxyethanol or aluminium. Foundation Glow and Matt are available in two finishes and two shades.

Q. Is Biopeptide Complex patented?

Yes — WellU holds a patent for the method of obtaining biologically active collagen peptides from freshwater fish (Polish patent PL206813, with US equivalent US7285638). The inventor is Prof. Andrzej Frydrychowski, MD, PhD, head of the WellU Scientific Board. The patent covers the cold-extraction method, which preserves signalling peptide fractions (from lumican, decorin and histones) — destroyed by the standard enzymatic hydrolysis used by other companies.

Q. From what age is it worth starting collagen supplementation?

Collagen synthesis in the body starts to decline after age 25 — by around 1–1.5% per year. Preventive supplementation with Glowin'UP is advisable from around 25–30 years old, before changes become clearly visible. After age 40 supplementation is strongly recommended; for women after menopause, when collagen loss accelerates, it is especially important.

Q. What is Holistic Peptide Complex, and who is it for?

Holistic Peptide Complex is a Nutrivi peptide drink in sachets (30 servings, blackcurrant flavour). The formula focuses on immunity and overall wellbeing: 300 mg of lyophilized marine collagen per serving, astaxanthin, black chokeberry extract, three medicinal mushrooms (Agaricus, Maitake, Reishi) and curcumin with piperine. Designed for people looking after their immune system, especially during autumn and winter.

Q. Why are Nutrivi supplements lyophilized rather than hydrolyzed?

Lyophilization (low-temperature freeze-drying) preserves the full spectrum of collagen peptide fractions, including the delicate signalling peptides from lumican and decorin. Enzymatic hydrolysis at high temperature, used by most manufacturers, destroys these fractions — leaving amino acids and simple peptides, but without biologically active "messengers". That's why WellU patented its own method of obtaining collagen.
